Opportunity

Abt Associates seeks bright, talented, and intellectually curious students to participate in our summer Abternship. As a paid Business Development (Climate Adaptation and Resilience) intern in the Just Climate and Energy Transitions Portfolio, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on industry experience while being immersed into Abt’s organizational culture. Interns will learn from some of the top experts in their respective fields while experiencing events/programs that are useful in any professional setting. Our programs will consist of a robust and structured curriculum that encompasses professional development opportunities, networking events, and a mentorship program. Interns can be remote, hybrid, or in person and can be located anywhere in the United States.

The Summer Internship Program at Abt Associates is 10 weeks, beginning June 3, 2024, through August 9, 2024. Interns must be able to work full time (40 hours per week) for the duration of the program.

Key Roles And Responsibilities

Candidate must participate in programming/seminars/meetings scheduled throughout the Abternship • Provide support for the pipeline development for the Just Climate and Energy Transitions Portfolio in consultation with the business development support team and the Client Account Lead for Climate Adaptation and Resilience. • Support data quality efforts related to the opportunity management system (OMS). • Assist with drafting and preparing business development deliverables and presentations, creating charts and graphs, developing PowerPoint slides, and editing and formatting documents. • Support Climate Adaptation desk research, literature reviews and summarize findings/information in technical documents, reports, and related materials. • Research on USAID priorities in the Philippines, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, and India. • Carry out analysis of Congressional Budget Justifications, Country Development Cooperation Strategies, press releases, and USAID policies. • Attend Climate Adaptation and Resilience webinars and talks; provide research and analysis on these events. • Draft proposal sections, assists with internal data calls, and drafts internal and external communications to support the Client Account Lead.  • Support administrative needs such as organizing portfolio documents, key personnel recruitment, and other tasks/duties, as needed. • Assist with preparation for internal and external meetings, scheduling and set up. • This role reports to the Client Account Lead for Climate Adaptation and Resilience.

What We Value • Candidate is currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate level degree program • Ideal candidates will have academic or work experience in economics, geography, climate change, International Development or a related field. • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint. • Excellent writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills. • Has completed at least two years of college coursework. • Is available to work full-time throughout the 10-week internship. • Is eligible to work in the United States. • Transitioning military are also encouraged to apply. • Knowledge of French is a plus.  • Experience, research, or academic work in South, Southeast Asia, and/or the Pacific is preferred.

This position offers an anticipated hourly rate of:

Undergraduate student: $19.00 per hour

Graduate student: $23.00 per hour
