Internship candidates can expect a full-time onsite internship program, running from May 30, 2024 to August 9, 2024. This internship opportunity is offered in Milwaukee, WI and New York City, NY. Internship candidates who are relocating for the summer internship opportunity are eligible for round-trip airline/train travel and mileage reimbursement to and from your internship location and company-provided housing for the duration of the summer internship program in accordance with the company's relocation policy.

UX Design Internship

As a UX Design Intern, you will work alongside your hiring manager, mentor, and team to complete tasks critical for Northwestern Mutual's success. UX Content Team Internship As a UX Content Intern, you will work alongside the Lead Content Strategist (hiring manager), Content Strategist, Content Writer, and an extended team of employee experience designers and researchers to better understand the needs of our employees and how to improve their digital and on-campus experience. We are here to help you both identify and continue to develop your future career goals and passions. Responsibilities of Role • Assist in developing content strategies with a focus on human centered design. • Create and refine content including for intranet pages and team presentations. • Conduct content audits and provide recommendations for improving content consistency, clarity, voice, and tone. • Assist in maintaining content style guides and voice and tone guidelines. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure content delivers on departmental objectives while maintaining UX best practices. • Participate in user research activities and team discussions to gain insights into user preferences and behaviors. • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in UX writing and content strategy.

UX Research & Enterprise Experience Design Internship UX Research & Enterprise Experience Design professionals inform, shape, evaluate, and monitor the user experiences delivered to consumers, the field, and home office employees through a variety of research techniques. They work collaboratively with leaders, designers, and other partners to support user-centered, data-driven decision-making throughout the product development lifecycle. As a UX Research & Enterprise Experience Design Intern, you will work alongside your hiring manager, mentor, and team to complete tasks critical for Northwestern Mutual's success. See below for job responsibilities: • UX Research: Plan and execute qualitative and quantitative user research. Communicate research findings and insights to partners and advocate for the end-user in both tactical and strategic experience design decision-making. Collaborate with product, design, and development teams to raise awareness of user needs, problems, and behaviors. Understand research needs and identify the right research methodologies to address them. Develop UX Research artifacts including proposals, moderator's guides, and research reports. Identify unmet research opportunities that can add value and efficiently execute them. Recruit and maintain lists of targeted research participants from internal and external sources and serve as a source of user knowledge for the organization. • Enterprise Experience Design: Takes user insights through research and synthesize them into stories, journey maps, and service blueprints with the intention of informing detail design and helping leaders tell a story about the future. An intern will help build out and codify toolkits, including methodology & framework used in engagements. Bridges the gap between fact-based research and informs what they design.

UX Design Content Strategy Internship : As a UX Content Strategy Intern, you will work alongside your hiring manager, mentor, and team to complete tasks critical for Northwestern Mutual's success. We are here to help you both identify and continue to develop your future career goals and passions. • Design written content for the internal and external digital product platforms. Support the team to ensure consistent, concise language within products and will learn how to voice changes to different target audiences. • Content health and current state of content ensuring its findable, accessible, and governable. • Content design building taxonomies, naming conventions, and information architectures. • Content process learning about permission levels and expiry dates on the back end.

Program/Project Management: You will assist a Project Management Office (PMO) or similar team in day-to-day project task management, make connections across teams to drive identification and managing of inter-dependencies, drive clarity on objectives, priorities, and measures, schedule meetings with stakeholders, assist in requirement gathering and documentation, and participate in program ceremonies (stand ups, planning, refinement, etc.). You will do this work in support of our business partner workstreams, contributing to PMO deliverables including newsletters and quarterly business reporting, creation of unified program plans that deliver the program objectives, while also being accountable for identifying, assessing, and mitigating program risks and issues and removing impediments. Program/Project Managers utilize various project tooling to move tasks to completion such as Jira and Jira Align. You'll shadow various workstream across the org to gain knowledge of different approaches. During your internship you can expect to be assigned an internal project with deliverables and milestones to completed throughout the internship.

Bring Your Best! What this role needs. Minimum qualifications • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in: Graphic Design, Communication Arts, Digital Design, Industrial Design, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Journalism, Advertising, Communications, or related field from an accredited college or university • Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher • Previous work or classroom experience in one or more of the following: User experience design, color theory, communication, journalism, industrial design • Portfolio link provided via application • Employer immigration sponsorship is not available for this role

Preferred skills and Proficiencies • Previous User Experience design, color theory, communication, industrial design, journalism and/or relevant project experience • Effective oral and written communication skills • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability • High degree of self-motivation, passion, and a strive to learn • Ability to balance multiple priorities
