Data Scientist Product Intern (NYSG) - Summer 2024

Ursa Space Systems is building ground-breaking solutions to deliver global intelligence to organizations worldwide. Through our network of satellite images (SAR/EO), sensors (RF) and data fusion expertise, Ursa Space detects real-time changes in the physical world to expand transparency. In addition, our subscription and custom services enable organizations to access satellite imagery and analytic results with no geographic, political, or weather-related limitations.
Ursa, located in downtown Ithaca, NY, is seeking multiple interns interested in gaining hands-on experience with using satellite imagery and other sources of information to answer complex questions about the world.
Positions for Data Science are available for the 2024 summer. This position is remote-friendly, although interns may work from Ursa’s Ithaca, NY headquarters if they prefer on-site for some or all of the internship.
This is a 10-week, full-time internship opportunity (Summer 2024) for students working on a degree in data science, statistics, math or another related STEM field with an extensive data or image analysis component. Intuition, creativity, and flexibility are the most important primary qualifications. Experience with imagery (e.g. synthetic aperture radar, or SAR) is a major plus.
Duties may include • Contribute to Marketing collateral (e.g. use cases, white papers, product documentation, blogs, storymaps, etc.) based on data science research to address topics including accuracy, back testing and market applicability. • Analyze geospatial data to discover trends, build predictive models, and corroborate current events with existing capabilities. • Generate clear product value propositions and use cases across different industries. • Validate and evaluate algorithms designed to derive data from satellite images • Present findings to technical and nontechnical stakeholders using reports, slideshows, and interactive code
Requirements • Ability to successfully work with a remote team • In depth knowledge of statistics • Software engineering and coding experience • Must be able to discuss insights from data through storytelling
Preferred • Experience with Python code development and usage of Python in data manipulation and/or machine learning model building applications • Experience with Git and version control • An interest in commodities, finance, and global affairs
Eligibility
To qualify for this New York Space Grant position, candidates must be a US Citizen and currently enrolled as a full-time student. In addition, one or both of the following must apply: • Attend a university in New York State • Be a resident of New York State
Compensation
The total stipend for this internship is $7,300.00, which will be paid in two installments during the summer.
