Job description

The Rockefeller Foundation is seeking an Intern for our Finance team.

As an Intern at The Rockefeller Foundation, you will have the chance to contribute to our initiatives through engaging, meaningful work assignments • This duration of this position is from January – May 2024. • This position is open to undergraduate and graduate students. • A cover letter is required. • This position will be based in New York City with either a hybrid or fully remote schedule.

Pay Range:$25 - $35 hourly rate. This represents the present low and high end of the Foundation’s pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to experience. This is a non-exempt position and thus eligible for overtime pay.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities • Data entry, digital filing, and record-keeping for RF and its related entities. • Assists with journal entry preparation, accounts payable, and account reconciliations; participates in the closing process. • Monitors discrepancies in payments and accounting records; investigates variances. • Prepares invoices and assigned financial reports as needed. • Monitors and reconciles intercompany balances between RF and public charity (RFCC). • Assists with IRS tax forms (1099 and 1042), annual tax return forms (990PF and 990) filings, and supporting schedules. • Participate in Finance team meetings, capturing key discussions, decisions, and action items. • Ability to learn and support developing information for financial statements (i.e., statement of activities and statement of financial position) reconciliations. • Supports the Controller and Managing Director-Finance with coordinating the calendars of activities for Finance and RFCC Teams. • Assists Finance team and regional office teams on ad-hoc projects and inquiries.

Education, Experience, And Skills • Currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program in one of the following areas: Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field. • Passion for using financial information as tools for improved decision-making and working in the nonprofit sector. • Attention to detail - able to complete tasks with a high level of accuracy. • High level of organization and ability to manage deadlines. • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (primarily Excel) and Financial ERP Systems. • Strong interpersonal skills (both written and verbal) and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other team members. • Collaborative, innovative, eager to learn, and interested in how the Foundation creates and implements strategies working alongside partners. • Previous work experience in the non-profit/private foundation industry is preferred. • Must be a proactive self-starter. • Committed to the mission of the Foundation. • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
