Job description

ABOUT EQUITY COMMONS

Equity Commons is spearheading innovative approaches to end implicit bias via cutting-edge technology. By integrating the latest cross disciplinary research with cutting-edge technology, we offer powerful solutions for reducing risks posed by implicit bias. Recognizing the widely demonstrated negative impacts implicit bias has on society and across major industries, our team was motivated to craft a solution - one that actually addresses the issue head on.

Founded by a team of Davidson alumni, Equity Commons was born out of shared frustration and shared hope — frustration over the negative impacts of implicit bias and hope that innovative technology could provide a solution. While a medical resident at Emory University, Dr. Aubrey J. Grant ‘10 gave grand rounds on the topic of implicit bias in medicine. As a Tech Impact Fellow at Davidson College, Leslie Alvarado ‘17 completed a capstone project that was a virtual reality experience providing a glimpse into “a day in the life” of being a Black male student on a predominantly white college campus. As a long-time friend of Dr. Grant’s and founder of the Davidson Tech Impact Fellowship, Whitney A. White ‘08 saw an opportunity to bring Leslie and Dr. Grant together to use virtual reality technology to combat implicit bias in medicine. So in 2018, Equity Commons was born.
